Hi, my name is Doug. I’m an American from Chicago in the United States. I love getting to know new people from different cultures. That is my favorite part about teaching English to people. That’s why I love teaching English to people from countries all over the world. I have many hobbies. Travel is probably my favorite thing to do. I love hearing about where other people have traveled, as well as their other hobbies. I also love movies and exercise.
I have nearly 10 years of experience teaching English, as well as significant experience with non-English speakers in general. I taught English in the USA for one year, Spain for one year, and now in Colombia since 2016. I am also certified by Cambridge University to teach English (CELTA).
My classes on iTalki are focused on improving fluency and conversation skills. For this reason, my discussion-based classes are appropriate for learners of all levels of English.
My teaching strategy is to engage in discussions that make you think and speak about a variety of deep topics. Ultimately, you are studying English in order to form real relationships. For that reason, it is important for you to move beyond the basics, and push yourself to speak about more advanced topics.Il mio materiale didattico

The lessons with Doug are fantastic! He actively engages in discussions, diving deeply into topics like philosophy, history, and psychology. Doug is both incredibly knowledgeable and approachable, making me feel completely at ease throughout the lesson. I highly recommend him!
