I'm James, I come from Nottingham and live in Cologne (Köln). The world is a complex, challenging and fascinating place. I've been learning languages for several years and have ended up moving to a different country, you never know where our lessons will take you! I think it is a great thing to do: the interesting details (like new words), the challenge of trying to speak it, and the new worlds you discover as you learn (music, films, people, politics). I have many interests: reading and learning is a big one, comedy writing, making music and other creative activities (I have a soft spot for football too!) and learning languages of course. After learning German for a few years and helping two friends with some basic German (I don't speak German well enough to offer lessons here however, I am sorry!), I realised language teaching is something I enjoyed doing. I got a TEFL qualification, taught at a refugee organisation, before joining Italki where i've given over 2000 lessons. I have met students at all levels for a wide variety of purposes: as a hobby, moving to a new country, preparing for an exam etc. I love my job as a language teacher. It is so varied and pleasurable meeting people from all over the world. Conversations: we can get to know each other in our trial. Our classes can mix general conversation with more general topics (food, travel, environment), news issues or specific themes that (pyschology, art movements, scientific innovations). To prepare I can help you find reading/listening/word lists for your level.
General classes: besides speaking practice we can work on particular skills, to be agreed in our trial. Things I have included in general classes are: grammar presentations/exercises, reading to learn new vocab/improve pronunciation, cultural presentations, help with your writing, exam/interview practice.
I always offer corrections/suggestions in grammar/vocab/pronunciation.Il mio materiale didattico

James is a professional, well-prepared, courteous teacher who listens carefully to his students and adds words and new things when necessary.He has a wide range of knowledge, you can talk to him about many things. He is very kind and gentle teacher.highly recommend!

James is my teacher for already a while now and I am very happy with him. He supports me a lot in my English exam preparation - so we go through various questions, translations and newspaper articles. I can only recommend him to every English learner (for all levels!)

Ich habe das 10-Stunden Paket bei James gebucht und hatte jetzt meine letzte Stunde. James war immer sehr freundlich, ist auf meine Wünsche und Fragen eingegangen und hat immer aktuelles Material für das jeweilige Thema zur Verfügung gestellt. Die Stunden waren für mich sehr hilfreich und ich kann James auf jeden Fall bestens empfehlen.

I had 47 wonderful conversations with James. This experience really helped me a lot to improve my English skills and my confidence while speaking. Not to mention that he was the person I spoke to every week during my first year in immigration, which is itself very valuable. James is a great guy and a passionate teacher. I highly recommend him!

This conversational lesson was great! It was nice to have a spontaneous conversation, answer his questions and then ask him questions about the UK that I'd like to know. It was nice to meet him. Big thanks to James for the opportunity to practice with a native English speaker and I hope to see him again soon!
