I am originally from New York City and was educated in New England at Northfield Mount Hermon School, Brown University, and the Rhode Island School of Design, where I earned both BFA and MFA degrees.
I have been an international English tutor for many years and have worked exclusively online since 2015. I hold professional certifications in TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) and CTBE (Business English) from ITTT.
I currently live in Indonesia with my Chinese-Indonesian wife, our two dogs, and extended family nearby. In addition to teaching, I am an active writer and painter, and I enjoy thoughtful conversation, cultural exchange, and helping students express themselves clearly andChe tipo di insegnante sono
I have over thirty years of experience as an international teacher. I am a lifelong leraner and I do my best to pass that love of learning on to my students. Some students have been with me for over eight years. Advanced students benefit from discussions about many topics. Recently I have started discussing essays from the Atlantic Monthly, The New Yorker, The New York Review of Books, and The New York Times. I explain the vocabulary and the meaning the writer is communicating. My interest is in creating a continuing online friendship with advanced students. It is valuable for both of us! My teaching style is personal and proactive. I engage every student and get to know them. I basically use the ESA (engage, study, activate) approach I studied in my TEFl certification class. I am also certified in Business English with TEFL. To begin I have the students make a short introductory speech so I can evaluate their level of competency. Then, I identify problems and begin to address them. I believe in a combined approach, emphasizing a good deal of speaking practice but also grammar exercises and homework. I expect students to make an effort and have at least a working knowledge of English. Their commitment to learning is the most important quality I look for in them.Il mio materiale didattico
