I am a curious, ever-learning person who enjoys traveling and immersing herself in other cultures. I love to exercise and stay active through biking, swimming, playing tennis and volleyball. I also enjoy dancing, and could not imagine my life without music and dance! Last, I take great pleasure in cooking, and even greater pleasure in eating and trying new dishes.
I hold two master degrees, one in Business Administration (MBA), and the other in Liberal Studies, with a focus in philosophy. I also hold a CELTA and a certificate: Enseigner le français langue étrangère aujourd'hui-Avancé.
I am a native French and Haitian Creole speaker, and I studied Spanish. I am currently learning Slovene.Che tipo di insegnante sono
I enjoy learning and found out through tutoring that I also enjoy sharing and explaining things to my peers and students. Moreover, they enjoy my energy and seem to benefit from my teaching style, which makes the experience even more fulfilling and motivating!
I currently teach General English, Exam preparation, Business English, Pronunciation and Speaking, and English Tutoring (conversation), as well as French and Haitian Creole classes.
I know the challenges learning a new language can present, and I believe in continuously improving my teaching skills through a variety of professional training that I can customize to help my students progress faster and excel in their learning!Le mie lezioni e il mio metodo di insegnamento
I have two styles of teaching which I customize to each student's needs. The most common is pre-structured, where I develop a lesson plan with a target language, within a specific context, for example, learning about the present continuous in the context of my student traveling or renting a car. This ensures my student learns vocabulary related to a relevant, real-life topic, and applies the target language through speaking and writing exercises.
I can also structure the class around a topic that my student chooses with a narrower focus, such as more grammar than vocabulary and vice versa. For either style, students can expect to also cover pronunciation.Il mio materiale didattico

Valerie is wonderful! Class always feels meaningful and a great mix of planned and flexible/organic content. She is extremely encouraging, knowledgeable, and just plain easy to talk to. I'm always impressed how she assesses my performance in the target language and gives me meaningful items to work on between classes. She makes it look effortless, but I can assure you that it takes a lot of expertise and empathy to develop and manage a class the way that Valerie does.

I end every lesson with Valerie feeling excited to keep learning! We spend the whole time in conversation practice in my target language. She gives great feedback to help correct my grammatical mistakes in the moment, and I always leave with new vocabulary words to practice.

Valérie est ma professeure préférée. Nos conversations sont si intéressantes que je suis toujours surprise quand on arrive à la fin du cours. Chaque fois qu’on se rencontre, je sens que je m'améliore et je sais que mon français a beaucoup progressé grâce à elle. Tout le monde aurait de la chance de l'avoir comme professeur. I enjoyed my first trial lesson. Valerie speaks clearly and feel like we got a lot in common so it is easier to find topics to speak about. Also,we will be able to practice, speak and learn new vocabulary about work, traveling, hobbies...
