There’s a saying: “When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.” I truly came to understand the meaning of this after meeting Howie, and I am beyond grateful to have found such an incredible Chinese teacher. I've been stuck at the intermediate plateau for years, but from our very first lesson, Howie immediately understood my motivation and learning needs. His lessons are engaging, patient, and encouraging, and they never feel like a traditional class. Our conversations flow naturally, and the 45 minutes always fly by. Thanks to Howie, I’ve rediscovered the joy of learning Chinese and am remembering vocabulary more naturally because it’s practical, contextual, and tailored to my interests. Teaching quality should never be judged by nationality or location. A great teacher is defined by knowledge, experience, teaching ability, and character, and Howie excels in all of these ways. Thank you Howie, I will always be grateful.

Highly recommend for those who seek for a Chinese teacher at every levels. I have been studying with him for over 10 classes now. All I could say is his teaching style is really flexible and lively so you are not gonna be bored at all. With his amiability, you feel no pressure even though you are new to this language. After each classes, you will always get new useful vocabs, phrases, grammar that could be applied in your daily conversation.

I have been studying with Howie for over two years and it's been an incredible experience. My conversational skills have improved dramatically! And it's worth mentioning that the content of the conversations we're having -- these are conversations that I want to have! They're natural and relevant to my life, and I'm learning to express myself correctly in Mandarin. I cannot tell you how many very boring, rigid Chinese teachers I went through until I found Howie. Howie leads a very interesting life, full of travel abroad, studying other languages, and making friends. He is someone that can connect with anyone, I believe, and our lessons are peppered with laughter, wisdom and learning. Very enjoyable, relaxed learning environment. To his credit, Howie has taken the time to understand my life and accepted my own limitations with advancing with Mandarin. But he's never given up on me, and the encouragement to continue is entirely positive and very motivating. I strongly recommend him!

Howie’s memory and attention to detail honestly continue to amaze me. Today in class I had a total brain fog moment trying to remember a phrase I learned weeks ago. I was determined to stay in Chinese, but the words coming out of my mouth were a complete jumble, not even close to a coherent sentence. And somehow… he knew exactly what I was trying to say. I was genuinely shocked. The fact that he could piece together my messy description and recall the exact phrase I meant shows how closely he listens and how invested he is in each student’s learning journey. Thanks again for another great class, Howie!

I like Howie's approach in teaching! It's very conversational and makes you feel confident in speaking right away! He also gave practical examples. I enjoy learning from him.
