I'm British, born and raised in England in the UK. I love making music as a hobby. I'm lifelong guitar player. I'm also very interested in learning foreign languages, fluent in Mandarin and currently learning Spanish and Japanese.

I started to self-study Chinese in the final year of my Acupuncture degree when I was quite busy, so spent a lot of time researching the most efficient way to learn, essentially becoming fluent within a year. This process inspired me to help others do the same, and I have been teaching English and Chinese since 2020 online. As well as helping students achieve their fluency goals I also have experience in IELTS speaking coaching and business english teaching. And a lot of experience with Chinese speaking students.

My teaching style is largely based on my own learning experiences and research into second and native language acquisition. I believe in a student oriented approach and a relaxed and supportive learning atmosphere. I also encourage all of my students to study actively outside of class providing extra learning materials if required. I like to base my classes around a story or a dialogue following with comprehension and discussion questions to encourage speaking confidence and fluency. I'm also a big fan of describing pictures.

很棒的老师，英文教得很仔细，我不理解的地方也会重新解释，而且中文也说得很好噢！An excellent teacher. He teaches English very carefully. If you don't understand something, he will explain it again. And he also speaks Chinese very well.

太棒了，跟着tom老师的第二节课，慢慢取得进步，我觉得效果很不错，老师给了听力材料，听力有了进步，有发现自己的英语在慢慢提高，很值得
