Hello, everyone! I am Elena. I am from Guangzhou, a city in south China.
My Chinese name is Jiaxian; I am a native speaker of Mandarin and Cantonese.

When I was in New Zealand for a working holiday a few years ago, I realized that learning their language is always the best way to know more about different cultures. That's why I want to help people who learn about the Chinese language and culture. I used to work in the retail and management industry and enjoy communicating with people. We would have many topics for our conversation, such as travel, business, daily life, etc. I hope my class can make you feel comfortable practicing as much as possible.

In class we started by introducing ourselves. Then she checked to see where I was at, asked how long i’ve been doing Chinese, and went straight into the lesson. At the end she asked what other languages I did, and what we’d be going over next class. Overall, I did enjoy the class, I would say for me it was a bit awkward because I’m not the most social person, but I definitely enjoyed the lesson!

We reviewed the lesson from last week as well as new material on the same topic. Was very thorough in explaining things I wasn't sure of. She also asked my questions to back up what we just talked about, and went through exercises.

We started off the class by talking about our day and the weekend, which opened up different topics that gave me lots of opportunities to practice speaking. Then we went through the reading practice, in which my teacher asked questions based on the topic, enabling me to discuss more in Cantonese. As always, whenever I wanted to learn a word to express myself, my teacher would always let me know. Her teaching style is great!
