Hello, my name is Mariel and I'm an English teacher from New York, USA who taught English in Japan for almost five years! I am currently attending graduate school to earn my MSc in TESOL with a specialism in English for Academic Purposes (EAP).
I am a former model and actor who appeared as a panelist on NHK BS1 Cool Japan - a national television show in Japan. I have a lot of interesting stories to share about my life, so let's talk!

I am a professional English teacher with four years of professional teaching experience in Japan!
From 2019 to 2020, I worked as a Native English Teacher for ECC - a popular eikaiwa (英会話) in Japan. I worked with students from ages 3 to 75 (all levels). From 2020 to 2021, I was an ALT (Assistant Language Teacher) at three public junior high schools in Muko City, Kyoto. From 2021 to 2024, I taught English at an after school academy (online and face-to-face) in Tokyo and was the head teacher and lesson planner for their Saturday morning kindergarten program.

I am patient, articulate, and interested in teaching anyone who has a passion for English. I have a standard American accent, but I can speak in a range of American and British dialects as well! I want us to have fun, laugh, and make memories together. My goal is to create a stress-free learning environment! I am here to meet your needs and help you achieve your goals, so my teaching style is a bit different for every student.

This was the best lesson I’ve ever taken! Mariel is very kind and patient teacher. I’m very impressed that she lived in Japan for more than four years and was working there as an English teacher! It was very easy to start the conversation and I didn’t notice how the time passed.
She came very prepared for our lesson and I felt that she spend a lot of time to prepare all the materials. She would also provide you with corrections in a very polite way. I felt very motivated to continue learning English.
I definitely recommend!!!! 10/10!

She is a great teacher. She is kind and patient. My son was talkative, but she listened to him kindly. My son loves her class and wanted to meet her again.

It's very enjoyble to learn english with Mariel. We worked on song lyrics. Mariel has flexibility mind that allows to create something new. I like to have conversation with people like Mariel!
