Thomas is a patient and knowledgeable Burmese teacher who is also fluent in many other languages such as Chinese, English, Russian, and German. His knowledge of Burmese is very thorough and he can provide the cultural and historical context behind grammar and vocabulary. He answers every single question I ask and explains hard-to-understand concepts well, using a combination of materials and internet resources. He also takes notes for each lesson and provides the lesson materials in PDF formats so that I can review them offline. I highly recommend Thomas to anyone who is trying to learning to read and speak Burmese.

Thanks to ဆရာ Thomas' classes, I am now able to hold a one-hour conversation in Burmese with people from Myanmar out in the 'real world'. I'm looking forward to using the Chinese textbooks for intermediate level and to making more progress over the next couple of months. ကျေးဇူးတင်ပါတယ်ဆရာ

Cares about students, teaches in a way that makes a ton of sense to students. We started with the alphabet but didn't study too much to the point that it was overwhelming. We then moved on from the constants to the vowels and tones. He adapted the lesson to my knowledge and background to make it easier to understand He uses appropriate learning materials and taught basic phrases as well. He was patient and made sure to be very understanding when speaking words for the first time. If anyone is looking to learn Burmese I highly recommend! He is also fluent in Mandarin so I assume he would be a great teacher for that too so give him a chance for that too!

Thomas, c'est un enseignant de birman au top. Hyper patient et compétent. Et en plus il maîtrise plein de langues, comme le mandarin et l'anglais. Il connaît le birman dans les moindres détails et il sait trop bien comment te plonger dans la culture birmane. Quelle que soit ta question, il a la réponse et il te débrouille les points les plus ardus avec des exemples simples et des ressources en ligne. Thomas Chen is a great teacher. He is full of energy and dynamic. I've been taking few lessons with him and I learnt many things already. We have time to interact. He gives me time to improve my speaking, listening and reading skills. The classes are not boring or complicated, but rather based on daily conversations. The vocabulary he provides is pretty useful too.
