I’m a native Czech speaker with over 3,000 lessons taught on Italki. I hold a bachelor's degree in law and have seven years of experience in language teaching.
As a former Czech ice hockey player and a student of criminal law, I’m passionate about our history and culture. I have helped over 300 students learn Czech, gain fluency, and develop the self-confidence to communicate freely with Czechs. As a compassionate teacher with strong cultural awareness, I am sensitive to each student’s unique needs. In my lessons, I embrace the motto “learning through play,” so don’t expect any dull moments! All my lessons are personalized to suit your needs, interests, and preferences.
We will primarily focus on conversation, which, in my experience, is the best way to master a language. However, we will also cover grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation. If you’re starting with no knowledge of the Czech language, don’t worry—we’ll begin with the very basics.

Je nejlepším učitelem češtiny na Italki. Od té doby, co mě začal učit, moje čeština vážně pokročila. Nyní jsem si velmi jistý, že se dokážu dostat na úroveň C2. He is the best Czech language teacher on Italki. My Czech has seriously progressed, since he started to teach me. I am now highly confident that I can make to the C2 level.

I'm a pharmacist from the UK who moved to the Czech Republic to study a PhD. Matěj is an excellent teacher who in a short space of time has taken me from zero Czech to being able to understand native speakers and have conversations with them, which is something I never thought would be possible. As someone who has unsuccessfully tried to learn many languages in the past and especially struggled in high school with them, I have found Matěj's unique, interactive lesson structure really effective for me and I was able to learn more than I have ever learnt before.
