Finnish language tutor with a passion for teaching I am currently studying to become a certified class teacher (I can teach all subjects in primary school for children aged 7-12) and Russian language teacher for all ages. However, my study program also focuses heavily on helping students with Finnish as a second language. I have taught children, teens and adults in traineeships as part of my studies. However, most of my teaching experience comes from volunteering regularly in Finnish language groups for immigrants since 2020. I have taught both individual students and groups in person and online, and have been teaching Finnish through English, Russian and Ukrainian. I also have some experience working with younger students.

My manner of proceeding during the lesson is to inquire construct an image about my pupil's situation, and give advise. Although I'm quite familiar with grammatical and other theory, I try to teach everything through context to make it meaningful. That way learning is engaging and fun, and it's easier to wrap one's head around things that way. I value that pupil enjoys the learning process and gets to freely choose the conversation topics.

I believe that speaking practice should be prioritized as early as possible in learning process. Using new words while speaking is a great way for memorizing them. I know how scary it is to speak in a language that you have just started studying. Don’t worry about making mistakes, we will practice at your space! I always tailor my lessons according to my students’ needs and interests, either it’s for applying for a school or work, for daily or traveling usage, or other. To me, wrapping your head around a completely new way of thinking that often comes with achieving fluency in a language is one of the best feelings I know, and I want to share it with you. As someone with a strong background in science, my specialty is scientific communication and technical writing. I also think my experience in grappling with abstract scientific concepts has taught me to explain grammatical concepts and semantic nuances in a concise and easily understandable way.

El finlandés tiene fama de ser un idioma difícil, pero yo creo que el problema no es la dificultad sino que tiene una lógica diferente a la del español o el inglés. Por eso, al principio hay que sumergirse en la estructura del idioma (qué es super interesante! y que además explica un poco la forma de ver el mundo de los finlandeses). (Ahora) esto no quiere decir que vamos a dejar la práctica de lado. Vamos a utilizar el idioma desde la primera clase.

As soon as you know three words, I’ll ask you to put them into a sentence. With me you won’t be ‘taught’ per se, you will be invited to learn by doing, to try things out, and to accumulate competence upon what you already know. My students quickly learn to ask me ‘can I say…? (voinks mä sanoa…?)’ followed by something they have just formulated. Before long, they start to create perfectly applicable and natural sounding Finnish sentences (which can often be short and make absolutely no sense when translated to English) by applying Finnish the same way Finns do.
