Hello could anyone help me with these:
The letter “L” in the word “World “ is it silent?
And another question “Flour” is it the same pronunciation as “Flower” or there is a difference?
I really appreciate your answers 🤍

I agree with Alyx that the letter “L” is pronounced in “world”, it is almost like the word has two syllables. For reference “world” sounds like another English word: “whirled”.
In different parts of the US people will pronounce the “w” in “flower” more. If you pronounce “flower” slowly, you will say the “w”. Otherwise, there is not much difference in how “flower” and “flour are pronounced. I hope this helps!

Hello Lubna! 🙂 The L in world is pronounced, but quite lightly. I'll try to send a vocal record with "word" and "world" so that you can hear the difference 😊
As to flower and flour, to me it seems to be the exact same pronunciation, yes.
Anyway, as I'm not native, I'm may not pronounce these words perfectly either. I strongly recommend the website forvo.com
It is a pronunciation database, in many languages, and has helped me a lot 🙂
Hope it's useful to you!

For ease - flour and flower are identical. there may be subtle differences around the world, but i would ignore them.
For "world", yes there is an L sound. Think of "early"....say it many many times. You can feel the L as it moves in to Y. This "y" is a short sound like the "i" in "is". It is not a long "i" - it does not sound like "eee". As you say the "Ly" you can feel the tongue tap behind the teeth.
Now say "earl" many times. You can hopefully feel the tongue tap still. That means your are very close to "ld" in "world"
So in summary "world" = W + EARLY - Y + D

I would say that most people pronounce "flower" and "flour" the same way. Technically, they are not quite the same, because "flower" has two syllables. In IPA, the pronunciations of the two words are written like this:
flower = ˈflaʊ.ɚ ˈ
flour = flaʊɚ
As you can see, all the sounds are exactly the same, but in "flower," there's a period before the final "ɚ" sound. This shows that the word has two syllables, not just one. As Laura says, some people make the "W" sound in "flower" a little bit longer to show that there are two syllables. But many people simply pronounce both words the same way, because it's hard to hear the difference.
