فحنيتُ رأسي مُفكرًا بكلماته، مُسترجعًا إلى حافظتي رسوم أحلام شبيهة بحقيقته. 
ثم عاد فسألني قائلًا: «وما صنعتك؟» قلت: «أنظم الشعر وأنثره، ولي في الحياة آراء أطرحها على الناس.»
 فقال: «هذه مهنة عتيقة مهجورة لا تنفع الناس ولا تضرهم.» قلت: «وماذا عَسَى أن أفعل بأيامي ولياليَّ لأنفع الناس؟»
