Native Speed Lab 2: Neighbours Chatting Over the Wall | Spoken Malayalam #172
Omschrijving
Two neighbours chatting over the wall cover rain, a new house, prices and children's results in one minute, and half of what they mean is never said aloud. English speakers listen for complete sentences and literal meaning, so they miss the small sounds that keep the chat going, the "that house" everyone already knows about, and the soft criticism hidden inside a question. This lab plays an invented, friendly neighbour chat at natural speed, then decodes the reduced forms, the backchannels, the shared references, the implied criticism and the polite way to step around it.
In this episode:
• The scene at natural speed
• Reduced forms
• Backchannels: the sounds of listening
• Shared knowledge and implied criticism
• Polite deflection and the exit
• Language bridge
• Practice
• Self-check questions with answers
