朝气蓬勃的老年人,死气沉沉的年轻人 How do you perceive the title? That is a popular topic now on Chinese social media and it literally means “active and energetic old guys & young people are in torpor”. Doesn’t it sound odd? I’ll bring its background information up below. Recently in China, unemployment among 16-24 years old people is becoming severer and severer, even those who hold a superior degree certification have found it hard to find a job. The main reason is that graduates are more than the jobs they expected to find, with the decline in China’s economy. Things are getting terribly competitive, more and more high-educated young people show up in simple-skills-needed work, and that makes them keep questioning their efforts on academics, feeling upset and frustrated. There are just two things in everyday life of loads of them- working and then chilling at home. Comparing the status of young people, lots of senior citizens look happy and enjoyed their lives. A good number of them are retired with a pay, as well as some fairly low-demand lifestyle. They are eager to get into some things they never realized or missed out when they were young, in addition, they are more enthusiastic about their health conditions than that when they were young. Old ones can be seen mostly in morning exercise doing group. Health care products are sold well towards the elderly. So the trend let the topic makes sense and becomes popular on Chinese social media.

朝气蓬勃的老年人,死气沉沉的年轻人 How do you perceive the title? That is a popular topic now on Chinese social media and it literally means “active and energetic old guys & young people are in torpor”. Doesn’t it sound odd? I’ll bring a little more context below to explain that statement. Recently in China, the unemployment rate among the 16-24 is becoming more and more severe / is getting worse even among those who hold a high degree who also find it hard to find/get a job. The main reason is that the number of graduates is higher than the number of available jobs in their corresponding sector because of the decline of China’s economy. Things are getting terribly competitive, more and more highly educated young people resort to finding low-paying jobs, and that makes them keep questioning their efforts on academics, feeling upset and frustrated. They only have two things in life: working and then chilling at home. In contrast with the status of young people, lots of senior citizens look happy and enjoy their lives. A good number of them are retired and get a pension, as well as some fairly low-demanding lifestyle. They are eager to get into some things they never had the occasion to do or missed out when they were young, in addition, they are more enthusiastic about their health conditions than when they were young. Elder people can be seen mostly in the morning, doing exercise in group. Health care products are well sold among the elderly. So, such a situation explains why this trend became so popular on Chinese social media.
