Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? It is better for children to grow up in the countryside than in a large city. When thinking about the countryside, images of its idyllic life and scenery always appear in our minds. Many people think it an ideal place for children to grow up in contrast to big cities. This might be true when there are no significant differences between the countryside and the cities in terms of the infrastructure, economy and so on. However, that is not always the case. Allowing for the actual circumstances in some developing countries, I think sometimes large cities are more suitable places for children to live, considering the living conditions, education and health care resources. First, the city is more likely to be a hospitable environment for children in less developed countries. Given the limited funds, their governments usually prioritize the development of main cities. Thus, they invest large amounts of money into municipal facilities, like utilities, public transportation, parks, museums, shopping malls in urban cities rather than rural areas. Therefore, children can enjoy a more convenient, material-sufficient, and modern life in cities. Secondly, big cities provide better educational opportunities, which are important for the development of children. In the process of industrialization, major cities have witnessed the influx of people from the rural or small towns. As a result, there are fewer and fewer people living in the country. This has resulted in many schools there being closed, and teachers being reluctant to stay and work there because of low pay and being away from the central city. On the other hand schools in metropolises have adequate funding and expert teachers, so students can get a better education there and expect a promising future.
