Professionele leerkrachtIn Spanish, some feminine nouns use “el” instead of “la”.
👉 Why? To avoid two strong “a” sounds together.
✅ Rule: Use “el” with feminine nouns that start with a stressed “a” sound:
el agua
el águila
el hambre
BUT ⚠️ they are still feminine!
So adjectives stay feminine:
el agua fría
el águila blanca
🚨 Exceptions (use la):
When there is an adjective in between
👉 la fría agua ❌ (rare, but grammatically shows the rule)
Names 👉 la Ana
Letters 👉 la a
Which sentence is correct?
la águila vuela alto
el águila vuela alto
el águila vuela alta
