Hello! I'm from Texas and lived in Sweden for a year as an Exchange Student. I'm planning on moving back to Europe soon, likely to the Czech Republic, and would love to talk to any Czech speakers! :)

    Hi there!

    Hey, how's it going?
My name is Jason, and I am a software engineer.
My native language is Chinese. I living in Shanghai.
I like English very much, because if you speak it,
you can watch movies with no subtitles, and you can read a lots of fantastic articles.
But, I am terrible at English.
So, I am looking for someone to help me learning English,
and I would be very happy to help you learn Mandarin Chinese with you.

Great job! Don't be silly, you're not terrible at all! Your mistakes were quite minor, and wouldn't stop any English-speaker from understanding your writing at all. If you like, I'd be happy to help you practice English from time to time; just send me a friend request! :)

    Keep up the good work!

Would can be a difficult word to explain, but with a bit of practice I'm sure you'll get a feel for it in no time. There are several different ways to use "would", and they depend on different interpretations of the word. "Would" can refer to a time in the past, in which case it is usually used with "when"; for instance: "When I was young I would ride my bike home after school every day." It implies something that you did regularly for a period of time in the past. Another way of using "would" is in the conditional tense, and is usually used together with "if". "IF you had a million dollars, what WOULD you buy?" "IF you had to pick one food to eat for the rest of you life, what WOULD you pick?" This is actually related to the usage that you mentioned: making things more polite. Whenever you say that you "would like" something, instead of that you "want" something, it technically makes it into a conditional phrase. The same applies to asking someone if they "would" do something. The "if", or "condition" isn't specified, but is instead implied to be something along the lines of "if it is possible", or "if you don't mind". Using "would" in this context makes something more polite because, by making the demand into a request, it gives the person the option of saying "no". I think I might have made it sound much more complicated than it needs to be: Here's some simple rules to remember. 1. Use "would" with "when" when talking about something you did regularly in the past. Ex: "WHEN I lived in France, I WOULD eat fresh crepes every morning." 2. Use "would" with "if" in a conditional phrase, i.e. a phrase about a hypothetical situation. Ex: "What WOULD you do IF you won the lottery?" "If I won the lottery, I would buy 1,000,000 chicken nuggets." 3. Use "would you" in front of commands and "I would like/would you like" instead of "I want/do you want" to be more polite. Ex: "I would like some jelly. Would you open the jar for me?" "Would you like jam instead?"

    Living with my friends

I want to know my friend's feelings. I don't understand itbut I always pretended that I know your feeling did, that I accepted your feelings. Because, if I didn't pretend, we couldn't have had a good relationship, I thought. These days we haven't been keeping in touch with each other and I'm always been thinking wondering how my friend they are feeling now. If I ask my friend them how they feel now, it would be easy to understand how my friend they feel, but I can't. Because I've always pretended, and now I cannot contact my friend them. If I contacted with my friend, our relationship would become worse and worse (I believe you meant "worse" here, although I could be wrong). I know my friend doesn't want to contact me right now, not now. I have to find own way and I want to handle things myself. I've met a lot of friends and they are all different. There are many kinds of friends and I am so (I'm not 100% certain what you meant in this sentence, but I corrected it to what I thought most likely). My friends teach me a lot about our life.

Good job! I think one small thing you could do to greatly improve your writing would be to work on using pronouns, such as "he", "she", "him", "her", "they", or "them", instead of repeating the person's name or title (such as "my friend" in this particular piece) over and over again. It's a simple little trick that will have a big impact on how natural your English sounds!

Keep up the good work! :)

"Is". Since the noun that "is" refers to ("a lot") is singular (we can tell it's singular by the use of "a"), we'd use the singular form of the verb, "is". "Are" is plural - for instance, you could say "There are a lot of things to do," because the object is the plural noun "things". However, in the sentence "There is a lot to do", one must use "is" because the object is the singular noun "a lot".

Nashledanou italki!

"Beautification" is a noun meaning "the act of making something beautiful". Example: "The beautification of the old building, which had been repainted and refurbished, attracted much attention." "Beautified" is an adjective meaning that something has become beautiful (implying that it used to not be beautiful). Example: "The newly beautified building was the talk of the town." "Beautifulness" is a somewhat awkward-sounding noun meaning the same thing as "beauty". In fact, I can't really think of a context where it would be a better choice than "beauty". I'd recommend avoiding using it, and just sticking with "beauty" instead. It's awkward-sounding because it's redundant; The suffix "-ful" is often used to change a noun to an adjective, i.e. "beauty ---> beautiful", "plenty ---> plentiful", "pride --->prideful". The suffix "-ness", in turn, is used to transform an adjective into a noun, i.e. "fit ---> fitness", "happy ---> happiness", "full ---> fullness". Therefore, "beautifulness" is a form of the word "beauty" that has been turned into an adjective, and then back into a noun, for no real reason, making it sound a bit clunky and overly complicated. This is certainly a good way to increase your vocabulary! I hope this helped, and wish you luck :)
