Err, rather than 'Comedian', Tarento are B-grade movie-TV stars from various genres, who are used as cheap celebrities made to do various C-grade shows, like Food tasting shows, food tasting shows and some more food tasting shows.

Seriously, that is just what Tarento do. Dress up in bizzare clothes, go to a food joint and go 'oiishi' 'ummai' at every given opportunity. J-TV is a mess.

Japanese comedy is quite different from Western ones. More cultural and 'inside' references, more physical comedy and much more slapstick or atleast relies on the reactions of the comedian to pull off. The skits are done in groups of 3 I think.


To be honest, I don't find Japanese comedy any good....at times even horrible. Apart from a few shows, most are rehash-rinse-repeat of same kuso. But that's just what I think. 

But Adrian has made a very good point.
Indians are making good use of the fact that English is an official language if the country. This gives them a good boost in getting Visa and such than many European Nations. Due to this fact they might even get better oppurtunities than their non-native counterparts from other countries where English is not officialy recognized as a language. 

I believe I have an answer for Adrian.

Lots of people are the same as me. As I mentioned before, India has ~780 languages, often we would find people without the same set of languages as us, except English. So, English is used as the de facto <em>Lingua Franca. </em>Not only that, usage of English is stressed in most academic and official situations. Often, even between native speakers of same language, we would speak only English or at least a speech peppered with atleast 50% English.

In short, yes we do get enough practise.  Urbanites speak extensively and in a lot of cases exclusively in English.
About authentic-ness or native-ness, yeah Indians won't say phrases like 'howdy' or 'you sweet'? But we do not as a country speak in formal 'how are you sir', you know? haha. I think you missed my point about having the second largest english speaking population in the world, of course we get enough everyday practise, and we drop f-bombs and s-words like any other native speaker.

I might concede a point about not having enough practise, beause it might be true for people outside the Metros, but do you honestly think that in this age if IT, cheap Hollywood movies and social networking that, anyone unless the person lives in a hole has <em>'outdated'</em> English? 

I strongly believe in equal rights, and as an extension equal responsibility and consequences. I act the same towards my guy friends and girl friends( doesn't do any wonders for my love life haha). I personally try to treat any gender equal. 
Can't say if cracking the same dirty jokes or warning to beat 'em up about the same irrespective of gender(Yeah, happened a few times when I was 15-16ish, thankfully I didn't have to carry through since the girls backed away from the fist fight)  falls in that category, but I really try to treat them the same.

I confess on holding the door open, or pulling the chair on dates and other times, but to balance it out I split the bill, didn't open the door at times too. Honestly, I just try to gauge whether the girl is offended by this behaviour or not and just toe the line for the amount of time I have to be with her if it is just a casual aquaintance.

and oh, I don't carry the bags, unless it is heavy groceries, I simply refuse if she is trying to hand me one of those shiny clutch thingies because that's just a girl sayin', 'this ones taken' in a crowd. I refuse to be a pissing tree.( I hope you get this joke)

This is an issue I have difficulty with. Take my case, in India English is considered to be an official language and most official and Govt. documents are English. Also, India has the largest population of English speakers in the world after America. It was also a British Colony as recent as 68 years ago, so English is pretty much ingrained in many Indians. So, it is not difficult to find 2nd or 3rd generation English speakers here.
Infact, since India has like ~780 languages, it is almost norm for a child to have bilingual or trilingual parents. As for me, I learnt 2 native languages and English from birth, and education was fully via English. So, do I consider myself a Native speaker or not? If I do, my mothertongue would be 3 languages, isn't it?

Just for record, I have given full green bars on the 2 Indian languages and English. What do you people think?
