In the United States, New Year’s Eve is a big celebration. People usually celebrate it on December 31st, the last day of the year. Many people go to parties with friends and family. They wear nice clothes and eat special food. Some people watch fireworks at midnight.
A famous event is the ball drop in New York City’s Times Square. Millions of people watch it on TV. At exactly 12:00, the ball drops, and people shout “Happy New Year!” They hug and kiss their loved ones. Some people drink champagne or make a toast to the new year.
Many Americans also make New Year’s resolutions. These are goals for the new year, like exercising more or eating healthier. On January 1st, some people relax at home, while others visit friends.
New Year’s in the US is a time for joy, hope, and fresh starts. Everyone wants a better year.
The *ball drop* is a famous New Year’s Eve tradition in *Times Square, New York City*. At exactly *midnight on December 31st*, a large, lit-up crystal ball slowly lowers down a pole on top of a building. It takes *60 seconds* to drop.
When the ball reaches the bottom at *12:00 AM*, people cheer, say "Happy New Year!", hug, and celebrate. Millions of people watch the event *live or on TV*. It's a symbol of saying goodbye to the old year and welcoming the new one.
