The thing that most separates a correct Malayalam speaker from a natural one — and almost no course teaches it. Malayalam very often uses TWO verbs where English uses one. The first verb carries the meaning. The second verb carries an attitude: whether the action was finished, whether it was accidental, whether it was done for somebody else, whether it was only an attempt. English does something similar with phrasal verbs. We do not just eat, we eat up. We do not just sell, we sell off. That little word adds finality. Malayalam does the same job with a second verb — and it does it constantly. If you never use these, your Malayalam will be correct and slightly bare. Six matter. The first: കളയുക (kalayuka) — on its own, to throw away, to discard. As a second verb it means the action was completed, and often that it cannot be undone. പറഞ്ഞു കളഞ്ഞു (paranju kalanju) — said it, and that is that. Out in the open now.
