In this episode, I talk about interviewing in a second language. Speaking in a second language is tough; interviewing is tough. Doing both of them at the same time? Well, it can feel like walking into the lion’s den. It’s not for the faint of heart. And yet, there are a lot of brave souls out there who are willing to do what it takes to land a job in their second language.

You will hear a story about when I interviewed in Spanish, which is my second language, and get my top five tips for how you can succeed in an interview in your second language. Then you'll learn the definitions for the English idioms and phrases I used in the episode.

5 Tips for Interviewing In English

はい、こんにちは洋平先生です。今日は”すごい”に関して話したいと思います。 
え～、”すごい”は「い形容詞（けいようし・adjective)」ですね。色々な意味があります。いい意味にもなるし悪い意味にもなる。たくさんという意味にもなる便利な「い形容詞」です。
うん。えー。形容詞はふつう形容詞の前に置くことができませんよね。 
形容詞はふつう、名詞（めいし・noun)の前に置きます。「高い山」、「甘いおかし」、「 危険（きけん）な場所」、などですよね。で、例えば
 
✕このラーメン屋のしょうゆラーメンは『安いおいしい』。
これ、間違いですよね。 もう一つ、
✕森さんの仕事は『こわい危険（きけん）です』。
これも言うことができません。 えー、ちょっと形容詞を変えて、
 
・「安くておいしい」です。
・「こわくて危険です」
 
これは言うことができますよね。ですから形容詞を2つ使うときは、ちょっと変えなければいけない。”い形容詞”は『〇〇くて、〇〇』 というふうにしなければいけません。”な形容詞”は「〇〇で〇〇」ですね。（例）「危険で危ない」とかですよね。でも、カジュアルな会話では、この”すごい”は形容詞の前に置くことができます。
え、例えば
 
・社長の犬はすごいかっこいいよ。
これ、オッケーです。他にも
・今日の試験（しけん）すごい簡単（かんたん）だった。
 
これもオッケーですね。”簡単”は”な形容詞”ですけど、な形容詞の前でも言うことができます。
えですから、え、”すごい”は”とても”と使い方が似ている所がありますね。”とても”は、副詞（ふくし・adverb）ですよねえ。例えば「とてもすずしい」、「とても快適（かいてき）」 などと言うことができます。うん。これら形容詞の前にとてもを置いたパターンですよね。
えー、でも”とても”は文の終わりに置くことができません。 
例えば
✕私はとてもです 
 
これはおかしな文ですよね、言うことができません。でも”すごい”は形容詞なので、文の終わりに置くことができます。
・私はすごいです。
・彼のギターのスキルはすごいですよ。
 
などと言うことができます。 
えーっとでも最初にも言いましたがこれはカジュアルな表現（ひょうげん）で、本当はこの『すごい＋形容詞』は、文法的（ぶんぽうてき）にまちがいなんです これわかる人はいますかね。
本当は”すごい”ではなく、”すごく”と言わなければいけないんですね。例えば、さっきの文章（ぶんしょう）で言うと、
 
・社長の犬はすごくかっこいいよ。
・今日の試験（しけん）すごく簡単（かんたん）だった。
 
と言うと、これは正解（せいかい）なんですよ。ですから、みなさんの日本語の試験では、”すごく”と言わなければいけない。ですが、「すごい＋形容詞」はこれはとってもよく使われます。 
ふつう、え～文法をまちがえた言葉をインターネットでけんさくしてもあまりヒットしないんですよね。
でも、すごい＋形容詞,例えば「すごい高い山」、「すごい甘いおかし」 などで調（しら）べてもたくさん出てきます（ヒットします）。うん、つまり、まあよく日本人に使われているということですよね。 
はい、いかがですか、知っていました？知らなかった？はい、じゃあ、えー、今日も聞いていただいてありがとうございました。勉強がんばってください。バイ！
