This episode covers a common mistake with な-adjectives and nouns before connectors. The key question is: do you need だ or な?

① し（理由の並列）

❌ 元気し　⭕ 元気だし
Rule: na-adjectives and nouns need だ before し.
例：今日は暑いし、お腹がすいたし、そうめんが食べたい。

② けど（逆接）

❌ 元気けど　⭕ 元気だけど
Rule: add だ before けど.
例：元気だけど、今日は休む。

③ から（理由）

❌ 元気から　⭕ 元気だから
Rule: だ is required before から. Without it, the sentence sounds unnatural.
例：元気だから、今日は運動する。

④ ので（理由・丁寧）

❌ 元気ので　⭕ 元気なので
Rule: use な＋ので — NOT だ.
例：元気なので、今日は走ります。

⑤ のに（逆接）

❌ 病気のに　⭕ 病気なのに
Rule: use な＋のに. （い-adjectives are fine as-is: 暑いのに ✅）
例：病気なのに、仕事に行った。

まとめ

「だグループ」→ し・けど・から　→ 名詞・な形容詞の前に だ
「なグループ」→ ので・のに　→ 名詞・な形容詞の前に な

It was the horse’s suggestion, and she backed it immediately, saying, “I choose the turkey.” The pig, who considered himself an authority on all things gifty, cleared his throat. “That’s not actually the way it works,” he said. “It’s secret, see, so we each draw a name and keep it to ourselves until Christmas morning.” “Why do you always have to be like that?” the cow asked, and the duck sighed, “Here we go.” “First you ask me to give someone a Christmas present,” the cow continued, “and then you tell me it has to be done your way. Like, ‘Oh, I have four legs so I’m better than everyone else.’ ” “Don’t you have four legs?” the pig asked. The cow loosed something between a moan and a sigh. “All right, just because you have a curly tail,” she said.
