Anyone who is focused on growing and success will go through a phase where you leave your old self behind. As a result, you can no longer relate to your old friends. However, you are in that  phase wherein you are not fully developed  yet for your new friends.

만약 그때 다른 선택을 했다면…
고등학교를 졸업할 때쯤 나는 진로를 두고 고민이 많았다. 어릴 때부터 꿈꿔왔던 작가가 될지, 아니면 부모님의 기대에 따라 의대에 진학할지 결정해야 했다. 결국 부모님의 권유를 따랐지만, 지금도 가끔 그때 내가 다른 선택을 했다면 어땠을까 하는 생각이 든다.
만약 내가 작가가 되기로 결심했다면, 지금쯤 책 한 권쯤은 출판했을지도 모른다. 매일 도서관에서 글을 쓰고, 여러 문학 공모전에 도전하면서 문학의 길을 걸었을 것이다. 물론 경제적으로 불안정했을 수도 있지만, 하고 싶은 일을 하면서 살았을 거라는 생각이 든다.
하지만 현실은 다르다. 의과 대학에 입학한 후 매일 힘든 공부와 실습에 시달렸다. 처음에는 후회도 많이 했다. 만약 그때 의대를 선택하지 않았다면, 이렇게 밤을 새워가며 공부하지 않아도 됐을 텐데. 하지만 시간이 지나면서 나름대로 보람을 느끼게 되었다. 환자들을 치료하고, 그들의 감사 인사를 들을 때마다 의사로서의 삶도 나쁘지 않다는 생각이 들었다.
그러나 여전히 가끔은 글을 쓰고 싶은 마음이 든다. 만약 작가가 되었더라면, 나는 지금 어떤 삶을 살고 있을까? 물론 후회는 소용없지만, 가끔은 ‘다른 선택을 했더라면 어땠을까?’ 하고 상상해 보게 된다.
결국, 인생은 선택의 연속이고, 어떤 길을 가든 장단점이 있는 것 같다. 내가 선택한 길이 정답이라고 믿고 앞으로 나아가야 한다는 것을 깨닫게 되었다. 하지만 여전히 가끔은, 아주 가끔은, 원래 꿈꿨던 삶을 떠올리며 글을 써 본다.
그러던 어느 날, 오랜만에 책장을 정리하다가 고등학생 때 썼던 원고를 발견했다. 낡은 공책 속에는 순수했던 나의 꿈과 열정이 그대로 남아 있었다. 한 장 한 장 넘길 때마다 가슴이 이상하게 두근거렸다.
‘만약 그때 포기하지 않았다면, 나는 지금 어떤 사람이 되어 있을까?’
그 순간, 나는 깨달았다. 작가가 되는 길을 선택하지 않았다고 해서 글을 완전히 포기해야 하는 것은 아니었다. 의사로서 환자들을 치료하는 것도 중요하지만, 글을 쓰는 일 역시 내 삶의 일부로 남아 있을 수 있었다.
그래서 나는 다시 펜을 들었다. 진료가 끝난 후 짧은 시간이라도 글을 쓰기로 했다. 처음에는 일기처럼 짧은 글을 적었지만, 점점 더 많은 이야기가 머릿속에서 떠올랐다. 병원에서 만난 환자들의 이야기, 의사가 된 후 느낀 감정, 그리고 여전히 마음 한구석에 남아 있는 ‘만약 그때 다른 선택을 했다면’이라는 질문까지.
시간이 흐르면서 내 글은 점점 깊어졌고, 어느새 작은 문학 공모전에 도전할 용기도 생겼다. 비록 수상은 하지 못했지만, 다시 글을 쓸 수 있다는 사실만으로도 큰 행복을 느꼈다.
나는 이제 더 이상 ‘그때 다른 선택을 했더라면’이라고 후회하지 않는다. 대신, 현재의 삶 속에서 내가 할 수 있는 최선을 다하려고 한다. 의사와 작가, 두 가지 길을 모두 걸어갈 수도 있음을 깨달았기 때문이다.
어쩌면 인생은 우리가 예상한 대로만 흘러가는 것이 아닐지도 모른다. 중요한 것은 후회하지 않고, 주어진 상황에서 새로운 길을 만들어 가는 것이 아닐까?라고 생각해 본다.

LA HERBOLARIA MEXICANA EPISODIO 2.

La herbolaria MEXICANA como patrimonio cultural se ha transmitido de generación en generación, de manera que algunas prácticas subsisten y son ejercidas de manera común y corriente, ya sea en áreas rurales como urbanas. 

En el país existe una extensa variedad de tratamientos fitoterapéuticos que forman parte de la herbolaria mexicana tradicional. Cuenta con aproximadamente 4500 especies registradas de manera oficial, ocupando el segundo lugar a nivel mundial en el número de plantas medicinales registradas. 

Tanto en los países desarrollados como en los que están en vías de desarrollo, el uso y la comercialización de fitofármacos y productos naturales con fines medicinales muestran un crecimiento acelerado en el último tiempo, lo que se evidencia con el aumento significativo en la demanda mundial por estos productos.

También se ha comprobado que algunas plantas que se utilizan con fines medicinales tienen principios activos que se emplean para la elaboración de fármacos comerciales.

Un punto importante en torno al uso de las plantas medicinales es la experiencia de la tradición y su traspaso de generación en generación en las familias mexicanas. La mayoría de los usuarios y usuarias, en su mayoría mujeres, aprendió el uso de las plantas medicinales porque es un negocio familiar y sus padres o abuelos les transmitieron esos conocimientos. 

En general se menciona a un solo sujeto como la persona que enseña, que no sólo distribuye, sino que es capaz de recetar y curar. Es posible evidenciar un aprendizaje y experimentación que se transmite de generación en generación apoyado en paralelo con bases científicas. Se concibe también la idea de una “herencia intangible“ como tal, en donde se apoya principalmente a través de la práctica.

Al mismo tiempo funciona como un modo de mantener la identidad como pueblo, se puede traducir  como una forma de poder y autoridad que se expresa en el dominio de la naturaleza y sus propiedades...
