扉の裏側には、大きな字で斯う書いてありました。
「いろいろ注文が多くてうるさかったでしょう。お気の毒でした。
　もうこれだけです。どうかからだ中に、壺の中の塩をたくさん
　よくもみ込んでください。」
　なるほど立派な青い瀬戸の塩壺は置いてありましたが、今度というこんどは二人ともぎょっとしてお互にクリームをたくさん塗った顔を見合せました。
「どうもおかしいぜ。」
「ぼくもおかしいとおもう。」
「沢山たくさんの注文というのは、向うがこっちへ注文してるんだよ。」
「だからさ、西洋料理店というのは、ぼくの考えるところでは、西洋料理を、来た人にたべさせるのではなくて、来た人を西洋料理にして、食べてやる家とこういうことなんだ。これは、その、つ、つ、つ、つまり、ぼ、ぼ、ぼくらが……。」がたがたがたがた、ふるえだしてもうものが言えませんでした。
「その、ぼ、ぼくらが、……うわあ。」がたがたがたがたふるえだして、もうものが言えませんでした。
「にげ……。」がたがたしながら一人の紳士はうしろの戸を押そうとしましたが、どうです、戸はもう一分も動きませんでした。
　奥の方にはまだ一枚扉があって、大きな鍵穴が二つつき、銀いろのホークとナイフの形が切りだしてあって、
「いや、わざわざご苦労です。
　大へん結構にできました。
　さあさあおなかにおはいりください。」
と書いてありました。おまけに鍵穴からはきょろきょろ二つの青い眼玉がこっちをのぞいています。
「うわあ。」がたがたがたがた。
「うわあ。」がたがたがたがた。
　ふたりは泣き出しました。
　すると戸の中では、こそこそこんなことを云っています。
「だめだよ。もう気がついたよ。塩をもみこまないようだよ。」
「あたりまえさ。親分の書きようがまずいんだ。あすこへ、いろいろ注文が多くてうるさかったでしょう、お気の毒でしたなんて、間抜けたことを書いたもんだ。」
「どっちでもいいよ。どうせぼくらには、骨も分けてくれやしないんだ。」
「それはそうだ。けれどももしここへあいつらがはいって来なかったら、それはぼくらの責任だぜ。」
「呼ぼうか、呼ぼう。おい、お客さん方、早くいらっしゃい。いらっしゃい。いらっしゃい。お皿も洗ってありますし、菜っ葉ももうよく塩でもんでおきました。あとはあなたがたと、菜っ葉をうまくとりあわせて、まっ白なお皿にのせるだけです。はやくいらっしゃい。」
「へい、いらっしゃい、いらっしゃい。それともサラドはお嫌いですか。そんならこれから火を起してフライにしてあげましょうか。とにかくはやくいらっしゃい。」
　二人はあんまり心を痛めたために、顔がまるでくしゃくしゃの紙屑のようになり、お互にその顔を見合せ、ぶるぶるふるえ、声もなく泣きました。
　中ではふっふっとわらってまた叫んでいます。
「いらっしゃい、いらっしゃい。そんなに泣いては折角のクリームが流れるじゃありませんか。へい、ただいま。じきもってまいります。さあ、早くいらっしゃい。」
「早くいらっしゃい。親方がもうナフキンをかけて、ナイフをもって、舌なめずりして、お客さま方を待っていられます。」
　二人は泣いて泣いて泣いて泣いて泣きました。
　そのときうしろからいきなり、
「わん、わん、ぐゎあ。」という声がして、あの白熊のような犬が二ひき、扉とをつきやぶって室の中に飛び込んできました。鍵穴の眼玉はたちまちなくなり、犬どもはううとうなってしばらく室の中をくるくる廻っていましたが、また一声
「わん。」と高く吠えて、いきなり次の扉に飛びつきました。戸はがたりとひらき、犬どもは吸い込まれるように飛んで行きました。
　その扉の向うのまっくらやみのなかで、
「にゃあお、くゎあ、ごろごろ。」という声がして、それからがさがさ鳴りました。
　室はけむりのように消え、二人は寒さにぶるぶるふるえて、草の中に立っていました。
　見ると、上着や靴や財布やネクタイピンは、あっちの枝にぶらさがったり、こっちの根もとにちらばったりしています。風がどうと吹いてきて、草はざわざわ、木の葉はかさかさ、木はごとんごとんと鳴りました。
　犬がふうとうなって戻ってきました。
　そしてうしろからは、
「旦那あ、旦那あ、」と叫ぶものがあります。
　二人はにわかに元気がついて
「おおい、おおい、ここだぞ、早く来い。」と叫びました。
　簔帽子をかぶった専門の猟師が、草をざわざわ分けてやってきました。
　そこで二人はやっと安心しました。
　そして猟師のもってきた団子をたべ、途中で十円だけ山鳥を買って東京に帰りました。
　しかし、さっき一ぺん紙くずのようになった二人の顔だけは、東京に帰っても、お湯にはいっても、もうもとのとおりになおりませんでした。

はい、こんにちは。今回はポッドキャストの8回目です。週末はこの前買ったアンクルウェイトをつけて筋トレをしました。アンクルウェイトは、0.5kgの違いでも大きな変化を感じます。ダンベルも3kgから5kgにしようと考えていましたが、いきなり重くすると体に負担がかかりすぎて、よくないかもしれません。無理のない習慣を続けながら、少しずつ増やしていく必要がありそうです。仕事や勉強のプロセスも似ています。

Hello, This is episode 8 of season 2 of my podcast. At the weekend I did some muscle training with the ankle weights I bought last time. With ankle weights, even a difference of 0.5 kg makes a big difference. I was also thinking of increasing the dumbbells from 3kg to 5kg, but suddenly going heavier might not be a good idea as it puts too much strain on the body. I think I need to increase the weight steadily little by little while continuing regularly, and not exerting myself too much.The process of work and study is similar.

Last week I talked about Generation Z in my university class. Generation Z are people born between the late 1990s and about 2010. I am a millennial (born between 1980 and 1995), one generation before that, also known as Generation Y. Generation Z are digital natives, so they do most of their communication and information gathering online. Many university professors are Generation X (born 1965-1980) or pre-Generation X; the way Generation X communicated and gathered information was by telephone. As Generation Y, I use both the internet and the telephone a lot. In class, all generations came together to discuss differences in thinking.

Have you ever been "taken for a ride"? If you've been tricked or lied to before, then the answer is yes. Here are some other expressions about lying.

If someone confidently tells you a big lie and doesn't seem to feel bad about it, then you can say they are "lying through their teeth." Such people might make a "web of lies," telling many lies to make people believe them. And if someone lies all the time, you can say they "lie like a rug" – which is a joke using two meanings of "lie," because a rug can only lie on the floor.

If someone lies to you, tricks you, or wants to stop you from finding something out, you can say they are trying to "pull the wool over your eyes." The expression comes from the early 19th century, and may be talking about the wool wigs that some people wore at the time. So someone could pull your wig down, covering your eyes and stopping you from seeing what was really happening.

But not every lie is a big one. Sometimes people just "bend the truth," which is telling a small lie that is usually not serious and probably won't hurt anyone. Often people "bend the truth" by saying something that's part-true, while leaving out important information.

But if someone "stretches the truth," they are probably saying that something is better than it really is. Some people might stretch the truth to make a story more interesting.
