Learners rarely stop because it is hard; they stop because deciding what to study each day wears them out. This class makes every decision for you. Fifteen minutes a day for thirty days, each day specified. Week one trains the mouth with the R, L and vowel-length drills. Week two builds the core: എനിക്ക് ചായ വേണം, having and not having, and verbs through six forms. Week three joins sentences, and week four puts it all to use with a story, a film scene and your own introduction. Day twenty-nine is the real exam: saying that introduction to a real Malayali. Words and phrases in this class: മഴയത്ത് വഴിയിൽ രാമൻ കറി കൊണ്ടുവന്നു (mazhayathu vazhiyil raaman kari konduvannu) – in the rain, Raman brought curry along the road മല (mala) – hill മാല (maala) – necklace മുടി (mudi) – hair മൂടി (moodi) – lid, cover ചോറ് കഴിച്ചോ (choru kazhicho) – have you eaten? ഇവിടെ നിർത്തൂ (ivide nirthoo) – stop here എനിക്ക് ചായ വേണം (enikku chaaya venam) – I want tea എനിക്ക് സമയം ഉണ്ട് (enikku samayam undu) – I have time എനിക്ക് പണം ഇല്ല (enikku panam illa) – I have no money ഞാൻ എഴുന്നേറ്റ്, കുളിച്ച്, ചായ കുടിച്ച്, ജോലിക്ക് പോയി (njaan ezhunnettu, kulichu, chaaya kudichu, jolikku poyi) – I got up, bathed, had tea and went to work കാണിച്ചുതരാമോ (kaanichutharaamo) – could you show me? പറഞ്ഞുതരാമോ (paranjutharaamo) – could you tell me? In this class: • Week one, the mouth: R sounds, L sounds and vowel length • Week two, the core: wanting, having, verbs and questions • Weeks three and four: joining sentences, then a story, a film scene and your introduction • Five rules for running it, including never missing two days in a row Quizzes below.
