Part1) Some companies are controversial and criticized for their business practices. Do you think it is acceptable for people to take jobs at such companies, even if the jobs pay well? Explain why or why not. It’s important for people to know whether their potential employers have public goodwill before accepting a job offer. In my opinion, people should not work for those companies whose business practices are debatable or disgraceful. I feel this way for two main reasons, which I will explore in the following essay. First of all, a notoriously bad firm might makes its employees feel worthless about their jobs and themselves. People generally are naturally keen to benefit others somehow through their work, which can bring meaning to their jobs. However, if they find themselves a part of an evil enterprise and endangering the community, they are unlikely to feel happy and rewarded about their jobs, no matter how much money they earn. For example, if a grain storage company increases their profit margin by massively over-using bird killing chemicals, which greatly decreases the birds population and thus endangers the whole ecosystem, this would invoke doubts and criticism from environmental activists and the public for the company and its staff. Therefore, people in this company may feel stressed and even shame for what they are doing. For this reason, I would definitely choose respectable employers even if they pay less than notorious ones.(To be continued)
