China has a one-child policy in which every

grown so large and the government is
trying to prevent problems from an
overcrowded country. While this law is
helping to keep the population more
controlled, it is also causing some other
problems. What is your opinion of this
law?
The student should give an opinion and elaborate. At the least, he/she should provide reasons for his/her opinion.
The test giver can be the “devil’s advocate” and take the opposite side (whatever it is). Engage the student in a mini- debate and grade on his/her ability to elaborate or express an opinion on the topic.
S: this law is severely undermine human rights As having children or not is a personal decision. During the practice of this policy many tragedies happened, such as forced abortion or losing jobs. Many relationships were destroyed.
T: China was poor. As the only child in their family, They got more resources and a better education.
S: children without the support of siblings face various negative effects on their mental health. when the children grow up and enter the society, they don't know how to cooperate, trapping them in a life of poverty.
T: Isn't it a stereotype? Even though they don't have a sibling, They have parents and grandparents.
S: parents’ and grandparents’ love are different to siblings’. They cater and spoil their children and grandchildren.
