They perceived China as a poor and unsafe country through watching TV shows and news from their country! Seeing is believing when they come to China , the skyscraper and convenient transportation as well as the hospitable locals surprise them that is unbelievable! That is all different from what they know about China and Chinese!

I enjoy listening to podcasts about China (for example, the Sinica network), but what I understand is that: there is still a big contrast between "tier 1" cities and the country side. How does the country provinces are perceived in China?
