German articles
Use German articles similarly to English ones in front of their respective nouns.
In German, use the definite articles
der, die, das,... (English: the)
and the indefinite articles
ein, eine,... (English: a, an)
to describe single instances of people, objects or subjects.
Make sure to always match the correct form of the article to the grammatical case (Nominativ, Genitiv, Dativ, Akkusativ) and gender (masculine, feminine, neuter) of the noun that you're using the article with!
For example:
Apfel (Engl.: apple), gender in German: masculine
der Apfel (Nominativ, Engl.: "the apple")
ein Apfel (Nominativ, Engl.: "an apple")
Birne (Engl.: pear), gender in German: feminine
die Birne (Nominativ, Engl.: "the pear")
eine Birne (Nominativ, Engl.: "a pear")
Brot (Engl.: bread), gender in German: neuter
das Brot (Nominativ, Engl.: "the bread")
ein Brot (Nominativ, Engl.: "a bread")
