This phrase could mean that he doesn't want those who live far away (from the place in which his funeral will take place) to have to make a huge effort to travel by aeroplane just to attend his funeral.

'Flying FROM far away,' so the person doesn't want people to have to travel/(fly by plane) for a very long distance/(far away) just to say goodbye. This is perceived as a waste of time, money, resources, etc. People are also obsessed with climate change now, so sometimes people demonize any air travel even if it is for an important thing such as a funeral.
