- it's Sunday , today my parents don't go to work. (usually happens ) -Today my parents aren't going to work because they will get my grandmother from the airport . -Today my parents didn't go to work because of the storm .

The first one isn’t grammatically correct and sound awkward, because the simple present (here, “don’t go”) means a repeated or habitual action, not a one-time occurrence. So you can use in simple present in a sentence like “On Sundays, no parents don’t go to work.” But if it’s just today you’re referring to, you want the second sentence.

Hi Lisa. It depends how you want to use the sentence. Example 2 works fine as long as you're saying it before the time they'd usually start work. My parents are having a lie-in this morning because they aren't going to work.
