Hello native English speakers. Which of these two sentences is grammatically correct? Do they have the same meaning? (what is the meaning of it?) 1. I have learned to be dangerous upon points of honour since I served the Spaniard. 2. I have learned to be dangerous upon points of honour since I have served the Spaniard.

Hi, Both are grammatically correct, but they do not mean exactly the same thing. 1 uses past simple so it means the serving is finished. 2 uses present perfect so it suggests the serving continues or is still relevant now. In most normal English, sentence 1 is more natural after since.

1. You no longer serve the Spaniard. 2. You still serve the Spaniard. '... since I have been serving ...' would be better.
