'The restaurants in my town are all much of a muchness'. What does the phrase 'much of a muchness' mean?

It's a useful expression whenever you have to make comparisons. For example, I think the Cambridge and Oxford dictionaries are much of a muchness, so I buy whichever one is cheaper. My wife thinks that Apple and Samsung phones are much of a muchness, but I disagree. What do you think?
