The word is from Greek, so a native English speaker might not even be able to read it the first time either.
IPA: /kəˈtastrəfi:/
Notes:
The 2nd syllable is stressed: caTAStrophe
The "ph" (not "p") is pronounced /f/ (always true in English words of Greek origin).
