Профессиональный преподавательIt is natural that the language is influenced by others, and in our time, with technology, it is natural that some foreign words (especially in English) become part of the vocabulary or form new words. The possibility of communication is always important, and connections between people can bring good results, but when we think about small communities and languages that are outside the commercial script of the business, we need to know that not everything is about growth opportunities, there is an identity that needs be respected. I think "protect" might not be the right word, but there is no more important language and I particularly prefer that the new words are transformed and not just incorporated into the language. Here in Brazil it is called "aportuguesamento".

Hi Cecília, interesting stuff! One element of aportuguesamento (great word!) must be assigning a gender to new nouns. When a new noun gets incorporated into Portuguese, how does the word's gender get chosen if the original word has none (perhaps because it's origin is English)? For example, the word "internet", which (probably?) is AmE in origin, became "a internet" in Portuguese. Why "a internet" and not "o internet"?
