Today I read something different from what I read before in the book called Atomic Habits. It suggests that we should not focus on the single goal but on the overall system. The reasons are as follows: 1. Achieving a goal is only a momentary change because when you want to improve for good, you need to solve problems at the systems level . 2.Goals restrict your happiness because for one thing, the problem with a goal-first mentality is that you are continually putting happiness off until the next milestone. For example, you always say:“Once I reach my goal, then I’ll be happy.”For another thing, goals create an “either-or”conflict: either you achieve your goal and are successful or you fail and you are a disappointment.

The reasons are as follows: 1. Achieving a goal is only a momentary change because when you want to improve for good, you need to tackle the root causes of the problem. 2. Setting goals restricts your happiness because the problem with a goal-first mentality / approach is that you are continually putting your happiness off until the next milestone. For example, you always say: “Once I reach my goal, I’ll be happy.”. Moreover, setting goals create an “either-or” type of conflict: either you achieve your goal and are successful or you fail and you are a disappointment to yourself.
