Luckily I remembered to put on sun cream when I went sunbathing yesterday.

Hey,
I remembered to... - means I didn't forget to do something.
Example: Remember to lock the door. Remember to buy bread. (please keep it in your mind) I remembered to put on sun cream - I didn't forget to use it.
I remember doing something - means I remember that I did something earlier.
For example: I remember seeing this man before. I remember closing the door.

Both are good. There’s no difference whatsoever in meaning. There is only a difference in “feeling”. The infinitive feels factual. The present participle creates an image. Present participles are like photographs. Infinitives are best when you are trying to state the facts without embellishments.
