Hi, what's the difference between 'for the year' and 'of the year'? For example, the topic of the English speech of the year v. s. the topic of the English speech for the year

"This is the topic we will be learning about for the year." "This is going to be our discussion topic of the year". "This has to be the coldest day of the year". That was a good question, it was a tough one <3 On a side note, I would say that "for the year" generally refers to something that will be happening for a duration of the rest of the current year. "Of the year" generally refers to something that happened, and the speaker is acknowledging it's significance. But, of course, English has so many exceptions which is why it's such a confusing language to learn. I hope I helped <3

"Of the year" means the best or most important speech in the year "For the year" means the speech was made or prepared for that specific year
