If “get to” be/do something, it is a positive thing.
Consider these sentences, said by a small child:
“I am going to the candy store after school.”
“I get to go to the candy store after school.”
The first sentence is more descriptive and neutral. The second sentence emphasizes the privilege or pleasure of going to the candy store—the child has been given an opportunity!
