I think entertainment is when somebody or something “entertains you” , Like a show or a movie whet you can sit back and enjoy what you are watching. Recreation is also enjoyable but has a difference that often. You are making more of the effort to enjoy something. For example, If you play a sport or have a particular hobby you might work harder at doing it but you still enjoy it

They are close in meaning. I’ve usually use the word recreation when referring to physical activities and entertainment when watching or viewing something.
