Typical self centered American question. The idea of this web site is for you to learn a language and be interested in another culture and country. So stop waving the flag Stephanie, if people were interested in 'your' country they would ask you first, or post a question and/or discussion for you to answer.

Mai Loan - Kids learn just about the same way in every country. The only exception for us is there is more technology. So kids play more on tablets and watch more television. I as a mother try not to let my son play so much with electronics. He absolutely loves being outdoors and I do too! So I try to do fun learning activities outside like "let's count the leaves!" or "Let's see, is this a rock or a stick?" Just use your imagination! :)

A tasty Biscuit - I buy my clothes at the thrift store so my jeans cost about $7-$10 for each pair. They normally cost $20 at Walmart and $40+ at the mall. 

Leyla - Most of my family was in the military so I have a lot of respect for my country. I don't like our government today however. I do like the people and what the American dream means. I didn't realize I can take advantage of being American and already living here until I met some people who wanted to dream but couldn't due to their situation. I want to travel one day to see other countries, but will probably come back. I know we live better than some people in this world. Some people can't even afford shoes or food. We take a lot for granted here and most don't realize it. Like I said before, I don't like my government at the moment, but I do like the people. When I was growing up I wished I was born in Mexico because family is closer to one another. My husband is originally from Mexico, so he taught me not to waste food and he loves visiting family each year. So because of him I get to see my family every year. :) 

It all just depends.

Anthony -- There are plenty of other people who ask this question about their country. So does that make them self centered Arabs, Canadians, Japanese, or whichever country they are from? Not really. Just relax. I asked this question so that people wouldn't have to ask it themselves and they can learn about our culture and country as I learn about theirs.

Because Stephanie hasnt answered yet, I thought I would try (I live in the south of US):

Alejandro: Many people in the US are protestant although there are many different forms. There are also many other christian religions, including Catholic. Many people here say they are christian although they dont follow any church or specific religion. The Baptist are known for their chorus singing.

Spangola: Actually soccer is very popular now, much more than 15 years ago. Most every school has a soccer team..... more than have America style football teams. However, more people follow American style football. I dont know anyone that hates soccer.

Comandante: Southern heritage is thought to be different because we had a terrible war about 150 years ago when the “south” tried to separate from the country. Since then, many people from the south like to think of themselves as different from the rest of the US.

Rafik: Yes, Cherokee refers to original people before Columbus.... we say “indians”. There are still people from the Cherokees in the US.

Polina- There are many very good universities in the US that are not top 50. I think what matters more is whether the university has a good department in the area you want to study. If you can get into a top50 university, and your parents can afford to pay the high price, great. But if you go to another university, it will still be fine.

Yannick: That is a complicated question. If you have great insurance, you pay very little. If you dont have insurance, you may have to pay all the money you have … and then more. The government does not provide care. Doctors are very expensive. My daughter was in the hospital for 4 hours and the cost for the hospital and doctors was more than $8000. That sounds crazy, but it is true.

3. are the parties as in the movies: drunk people, crazy and those things?
Some, yes. However, it doesn't describe the country as a whole. Only the immature and lowlife people have parties every night where they get drunk and have one night stands. Some teenagers do this behind their parents' back. I never went to parties like that. I am 22 so I can drink now. I don't even wish to drink. I have had a drink with my husband once or twice, but we didn't go crazy like in the movies. This is more common in the famous places, clubs, etc. (In Los Angeles, California or Miami Florida). Even those places aren't crazy during the day, just at night. I know this because I have been to both places.

4. what do you think about latino inmigrants who arrive to USA?

I don't care who comes into my country as long as they come here to better themselves and their families. If they are murderers, rapists, or felons then I don't want them to come here. If they are hardworking, want education or are trying to flee war then they are welcome here. I see illegal immigrants, no matter which country they come from, as people. We are all humans and all deserve a chance. Our immigration system needs to step up a bit as well. There are people who pay thousands of dollars to become citizens and have to wait 20+ years to get in. It's all corrupt. That's why there are many illegals. We have many illegal immigrants who live in the U.S. from Vietnam, Cambodia, Mexico, Brazil, Guatemala, El Salvador, India, Phillippines, Canada and from the Middle East countries as well. It's not just Latino Immigrants.
