It's an issue I sometimes think about, though one which has never been an issue for people in the UK. Though I teach English, I am aware of its huge cultural power in the world, and some of the complexities this can bring.  I am just lucky that my native language is in demand.  

A nation which values the protection of its culture would be foolish, in my view, to let the language of a very different culture become the language through which its children are taught.  Inevitably, its children will be shaped by the culture of that language, subtly and over time.  At the same time, energy spent by young people on understanding a very different culture, is energy diverted from celebrating and promoting their native culture.
