Do you have some nice rules for greeting people, communicating with strangers, making presents or some certain topics which are usually discussed during meetinds and so on?
In Australia (and New Zealand too, I believe) it's custom to bring some kind of food or dring to someone's house when you visit. Everyone then shares the food.
What you bring depends on the situation. Adults might take a plate of fruit, or cheese and biscuits for example. They might also take a bottle of wine.
People my age might bring a six pack of beer or a bottle of spirits. If you have a party of 30-40 people, you will have a lot of drinks to choose from! The person hosting the party might only need to provide soft drinks and a dozen or so beers - everyone else will typically bring drinks without being asked.
At uni everyone's on a budget, so it's not uncommon to have an unlimited supply of grapes and corn chips for everyone!
To my knowledge the same custom doesn't exist in the US and the UK. It's actually hilarious how mean foreigners hear "bring a plate", and then literally bring an empty plate :-D
