Which is the Best Text Font to use in a PowerPoint Presentation?

I've created and used hundreds of PowerPoint presentations for instructional purposes.

I have one or two favourite (Br)/favorite (US) text fonts.

Which text fonts do you prefer to use in your presentations?

Which text font size do you prefer to use?

Tell us why you prefer certain fonts and sizes.

I'll explain the fonts and sizes that I use later, but first I would like to know your preferences.

Remember: If you would like to have your writing corrected, simply include the following at the end of your comments "Please correct any errors or mistakes in my comments. Thank you in advance."

Aficionado...

I agree.

Some people believe that strange or unusual fonts make the text more interesting, and that may be true in some cases, but for the purpose of providing instruction or important information the sans-serif fonts are much more legible and easy on the eyes.

Thank you for you excellent comments.

Fonts can be divided in two big groups, fonts serif and fonts sans-serif. Fonts sans-serif are considered more clear and easily readable. Also, for some reason, the font «Comic» is hated by lot of people. Maybe is better not to use it.

Hi Laura

Wow... you must be my twin :)

I too use Arial 28 for the text.

I use Arial 40 for major headings and Arial 32 for sub-headings (smaller headings).

I use bold colours (strong colours) such as blue, green and red, but I use colours sparingly (not too often, and usually just for emphasis).

I never use weak colours such as pastels because they are difficult to see.

And using colours too much is distracting for the viewer.

Also, red text in a small size is difficult to see from a distance.

Thank you for your great comments.

Richard, White text on a blue background looks great and can be easy to read if the content of the slide is simple.  White text on a black background is another option that provides excellent color contrast.  On a black background, yellow and red text can be used, in moderation,  to accentuate specific words without losing  contrast.  Interesting discussion for a language learning site.
