A Quick Quiz

Here I have three questions for all of you:

1. A bat and a ball cost £1.10 in total. The bat costs £1.00 more than the ball. How much does the ball cost?

2. If it takes five machines five minutes to make five widgets, how long would it take 100 machines to make 100 widgets?

3. In a lake, there is a patch of lily pads. Every day, the patch doubles in size. If it takes 48 days for the patch to cover the entire lake, how long would it take for the patch to cover half of the lake?

Enjoy it! :D

I don't actually. You don't have to use math if you don’t want it, just logic.

I took the questions from the website www.iflscience.com on its article "Can you pass the world's shortest IQ test? It's just three questions long, but few can get them all right". It is quite simple but can be also a good topic for a forum if everyone says how they solved the problems.

However, thanks for the idea, I will look for my little cousins' mathematic books hahaha

You are right, even when I don't know what you do in the second step of the equation haha. However, yes, the ball cost 0.05.

Well done!

Have anyone else tried another?

Diego...

You are testing my mathematic skills that I used a long time ago :)

Let me try the first question:

ball + bat = 1.1

let the ball = x

x + (x + 1.0) = 1.1

2x + 1.0 - 1.0 = 1.1 - 1.0

2x = 0.1

x = 0.05

How did I do? :)
