Yet one more question (Platiquemos FSI, U.15) to the community . Mr. Harris, the Consul, expresses his gratitude to Mr. Molina (Jose Molina is an employee of the Embassy). "Nos está prestando una gran ayuda. Muchas gracias, Molina." Is it acceptable to use the LAST name of the person in this situation? I believe it should have been either "Señor Molina" or better "Jose" instead of Molina. Thank you for clarifications.

It is acceptable, but it's not common. At least in Spain, address to someone using the last name, is done in working environment and also in school. Is less formal than Señor Molina and is not as familiar as José.
I think it's kind of deprecated.

Paco,
You made my day!
However you mentioned "...address to someone using the last name". Then it would be acceptable to say: "Molina, por favor, lleve estos papeles al Dept. de Inmigración." Right?
¡Un millón de gracias!
