I have one question:
When writing, are you frequently referring to a dictionary, grammar guide, or translator to look up words and constructions you don't know? I ask because you mention not knowing the language very well. If you're looking up every other word or construction, my professional opinion is that writing in your target language at this stage is not the best use of your limited time for learning the language.
Writing can be useful if you're recalling the words and constructions yourself when you put pen to paper, and only later looking up words or inflections about which you're not certain.
However, it's certainly not essential, and unless you particularly enjoy it and are at a stage where you know enough of the language to write without constantly relying on outside tools as a crutch, I think it takes time away from reading and listening, which you need in huge amounts at the beginning and intermediate stages especially.
We learn to write first by reading good writers. That's true in our native language and in languages we choose to acquire later. Allow yourself the time to take in and observe how people write in your target language.
