How do you improve your speaking skill? By yourself or with someone?
Hi there :) I'm a Japanese and have been learning English for 6 years (at junior high school and high school) but still not sure how to improve my speaking skill...so I would like to ask you how you get better at speaking.
These days, I'm trying to think in English as much as I can and sometimes make a call with my language partners. I've heard that speaking to myself in English is the beat way so I'll try probably.

Hey RIHO,

In my experience it’s very difficult to improve your speaking skills when you don’t live in a country in which that language is spoken. However I’m sure there will be places in Japan where you can go to practice speaking English (here we usually have language Meet-ups), and you can find language partners on here.

Two other pieces of advice I would give you;

Sing songs in English, paying attention to the pronunciation and rhythm. Even if you’re a terrible singer (like me!), it can really help you with your fluency, making one word flow into another.

Read out loud. If you’re reading an article/book in English, read it out loud. Take care to read each sentence as one whole structure. Pay attention to intonation, and try to ensure that your voice/pitch is conveying the meaning of the sentence.

That’s all the advice I’ve got, but I’m sure more people will be able to help out. :)

I think speaking with language partners helps tremendously, so keep going with that and little by little you will find your skills reaching a better level.
Also, I practiced myself shadowing technique and I know that also helped me a lot, as well as reading out loud. Finally, thinking in English is definitely a good habit.
I think you are already in the good path! I've been also practicing English for more than 2 years, from my experience, improving a language, especially the speaking part, is not a thing that you realise overnight, it takes time to be good in anything and so it is with languages, we do not have to expect to be completely fluent within some months, so my last word is to keep going with all these stuff and with time you will get what you are working for.

Just practice conscious listening. Pay attention to what the other person is saying, then pause and repeat the same sentence. Do it for movie dialogues, podcasts, audiobooks, speeches, etc. You'll improve your speaking dramatically if you practice this method every day.

Shadowing technique is a great thing. I teach my students to use it - to repeat by whole sentences after s native speaker. You may take learning audio, video materials or anytjing you like and you are interested in. You shoul copy 3 aspects od speech: pronunciation, intonation and tempo.

I think that retelling any texts you like, recording and listening to them works well. Using this technique lets you see you own mistakes without a teacher if your level is about Intermediate
