How the word came in the English language:

The word Sorbet was derived from the French language and was used to define 'Sweetned fruit juice.' It entered into the French language through the Italian word 'Sorbetto.' Sorbetto, in turn, came from the Turkish word 'şerbet.' şerbet came from the Persian word 'sharbat' which actually came from the Arabic word 'sharba' which means 'drink.' Sharba, finally, came from the Arabic verb šariba which means 'to drink.'

So technically it entered the English language through Arabic.
